Neck & Shoulder Pain
"How to Get Rid of Neck & Shoulder Pain Before it gets any Worse"
When you have neck or shoulder pain, stiffness or aches, it's easy to think that it's ”no big deal” and that it will go away on its own… eventually. You might just think that it’s a normal pain that comes with age. But now it is threatening your ability to do something you love or need to be able to do.
A lot of times the pain isn’t caused by anything obvious. But now, it doesn’t seem to be going away, and is getting worse!
If this is happening to you, you're not alone: we hear this type of thing all the time. We see so many people who are dealing with a variety of neck and shoulder issues.
So when it comes to suffering from neck or shoulder pain, everybody we see wants to know:
“Why Am I Hurting?”
or
“Why has nothing worked?”
or
“Why isn’t my pain getting any better?”
Most people think that neck and shoulder pain will just go away on its own. That they'll wake up one day and the pain will magically go away as if it never happened. But six weeks later, they're still having pain and not only that, it has become worse.
Does That Sound Like You?
Another scenario that we see here at our office is that people go to their doctors, and the doctors tell them to rest, take medications and “see how it goes”.
Unfortunately this is rarely the best advice. A lot of times, you end up going back to the doctor again because the pain hasn’t changed. Worse of all, you are given more medications, stronger pills and advised to get more rest. Or you’re told by your doctor to see a specialist whose advice is a shot or to have surgery. This explains why so many people are living with chronic neck or shoulder pain.
Has This Happened to You?
Why does neck or shoulder pain last longer than it should? It's easy to get confused because you've been told so many different things by different people. There are lots of people out there who are happy to give you advice, but not all of the things you hear are reliable.
Your neck or shoulder pain might have been caused by something like lifting or sleeping awkwardly. but it could have been caused by other things that were never properly taken care of (poor posture, stiffness, weakness and muscle imbalance). These things along with that time you lifted something awkwardly, eventually caused that pain you're now experiencing.
If you don't know what you're doing, or you have received poor advice, neck and shoulder pain can be very confusing. Because of that many people end up accepting that pain is just part of their life.

“I could not raise my neck to look at the ceiling, nor could I turn to the right, and I was having trouble even driving. I had tried physical therapy several times over the years, tried massage therapy, and I had just gotten to the point before I came to Simply Physio that I couldn’t even pick up my ten pound poodle. And now, as you can tell, I can raise my head, I can turn my head, and every time I back out, I thank God!”

“I noticed pain every time I raised my hand above my head, I started getting pain and it got worse and worse to the point that when I was traveling, and I was going through security, I couldn’t keep my arm above my head long enough to go through screening, so it was really starting to impact my life a little bit. . . .The biggest thing is my pain’s gone, my range of motion has been restored to where it was before, I can play racquet sports and I don’t worry about whether there is going to be sharp pain if I try to hit the ball or something, you know. . . It really restored me back to where I was before I started noticing any issues.”

“So before I came to Simply Physio, I was having almost daily migraines. I mean I could not function properly . . . I had to quit my job. . . I had previous run ins with medical professionals that they just didn’t care. They would listen to me and they would simply say oh, we’ll just give you pain medication, send you on the way. The outcome of doing a program with Simply Physio has probably the greatest impact has been my mood, my ability to be an active member of my family now . .. [and] I get to go in the gym which I haven’t been able to in years since the accident.”
