Back Pain | Simply Physio

When you have low back pain, stiffness or aches, it's easy to think that it's ”no big deal” and that it will go away on its own… eventually. You might just think that it’s a normal pain that comes with age. But now it is threatening your ability to do something you love or need to be able to do.

A lot of times the pain isn’t caused by anything obvious. But now, it doesn’t seem to be going away, and is getting worse!

If this is happening to you, you're not alone: we hear this type of thing all the time. In fact low back pain and sciatica are the most common problems we see here at Simply Physio.

So when it comes to suffering from low back pain, everybody we see wants to know:

“Why Am I Hurting?

“Why has nothing worked?

“Why isn’t my back pain getting any better?”

Most people think that back pain will just go away on its own. That they'll wake up one day and the pain will magically go away as if it never happened. But six weeks later, they're still having back pain and not only that, it has become worse.

Does This Sound Like You?

Another scenario that we see here at our office is that people go to their doctors, and the doctors tell them to rest, take medications and “see how it goes”.

Unfortunately this is rarely the best advice. A lot of times, you end up going back to the doctor again because the pain hasn’t changed. Worse of all, you are given more medications, stronger pills and advised to get more rest. Or your told by their doctor to see a specialist whose advice is a shot or to have surgery. This explains why so many people are living with chronic low back pain.

Has This Type of Thing Happened to You?

Why does low back pain last longer than it should? It's easy to get confused because you've been told so many different things by different people. There are lots of people out there who are happy to give you advice, but not all of the things you hear are reliable.

Your low back pain might have been caused by something like lifting or sleeping awkwardly. but it could have been caused by other things that were never properly taken care of (poor posture, stiffness, weakness and muscle imbalance). .These things along with that time you lifted something awkwardly, eventually caused that pain you're now experiencing.

If you don't know what you're doing, or you have received poor advice, back pain can be very confusing. Because of that many people end up accepting that back pain is just part of their life.

Do You Feel That Way Too?

If You’re Currently Living With Back Pain, Here are 7 Reasons Why It Could Be Lasting Longer Than It Should:

  • You thought it would go away on it’s own - but it didn’t.
  • You went to the Doctor who told you to rest and take pain medications - but the pills either did NOT help, or helped only for a short period of time (until the pain came back again!)
  • A friend, or family told you that everybody gets back pain as they get older, so you just accepted it.
  • You tried other Healthcare Professionals, or a Physical Therapist in the past, but nothing they said or did seemed to help.
  • You tried YouTube exercises but they either did nothing, or made your back pain worse.
  • You thought it would be a good idea to rest because your back pain was so bad, but all that did was make it feel even more stiff and tight.
  • You decided to get a few “massages” hoping that would fix the pain, but all they did was feel nice and relaxing, and didn’t do anything to fix it long term…

If any of these things have happened to you, we would love to help you by inviting you to schedule a phone consultation with one of our expert physical therapists. The fact that you tried any, (or all) of these things is actually a good thing, because when you know what doesn't work you're closer to finding the thing that does work.
