The end of the year is a time many of us reflect on the past with hopeful anticipation for the one ahead. It feels like a clean slate to start fresh. I also really enjoy reading other people’s “Best of” and “Favorites of” lists for the year, so I put together one of my own.
Favorite new exercise equipment: Pro Rotating Discs
So many people have rotational deficits, and one great way to help activate the correct hip musculature is by using these discs. They’re frictionless and just plain smooth. Most of my clients spend some time on these during their sessions.
Favorite exercise: Romanian deadlift
This is an advanced exercise, but one that many people will progress to. It helps develop your posterior chain (the back of the thigh and low back). Many people can perform a modified version by only going down halfway and without added weight.
Favorite new podcast: Stay Healthy Knoxville
Shameless plug: have you heard about the podcast I started this fall? 2019 is going to be even bigger, with educational workshops unfolding through the year. Be sure to check out the first episodes if you haven’t already.
Biggest blessing
In summary, it was a great year, full of many challenges: lots of long weeks (and weekends) building Simply Physio from the ground up. I owe so much to my wife, who worked harder than me with our three kids at home while I wasn’t. One of my favorite memories was getting away to Maine with her (no kids!) to explore New England and Acadia National Park: absolutely beautiful, both the park and the company.
Here’s to a healthy and happy year ahead.
