Hearing loss is common, frustrating, and often more complicated than people expect. Roughly 15% of American adults over 18 report some trouble hearing, and disabling hearing loss affects about 8.5% of adults aged 55–64, 25% of those aged 65–74, and half of those 75 and older.
In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Jameson Mattingly of ENT Consultants of East Tennessee, who specializes in otology, neurotology, and all levels of hearing loss complexity. We discuss:
- The different types of hearing loss
- The consequences of untreated hearing loss
- Treatments available to correct and improve hearing
- When hearing aids should be prescribed
- What a cochlear implant is, and when it helps
If you or someone you know is affected by hearing loss, this episode is worth a listen.
Thanks for listening, and stay healthy, Knoxville.
